A new article, the result of a collaboration between our faculty member Serhat Gül, Özlem Karsu from Bilkent University, and Batuhan Çelik from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (USA), has been published in Omega!
In this study, a novel metric that promotes both fairness and efficiency is proposed and integrated into a nonlinear stochastic mixed-integer programming model to develop fair and efficient schedules for chemotherapy clinics.

On February 22-23, 2025, the TEDU Industry and Quality Society organized a series of seminars under the theme CorporaTED’25. During the event, experts from various sectors including finance, automotive, manufacturing, and insurance, shared insights on industry dynamics and sectoral innovations with the participants.
Our faculty member Serhat Gül and alumnus Ege Özyüksel, together with their co-authors Tonguç Ünlüyurt (Sabancı University) and Batuhan Çelik (Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, USA), have just published an article in Computers & Industrial Engineering.
The paper, titled “Coordinating oncologist appointments with chemotherapy treatments under uncertainty”, presents models that integrate oncologist consultations and chemotherapy scheduling by determining appointment times for a daily list of patients.

Our department faculty members Dr. Demirci, Dr. Gül, and Dr. Serper participated in the INFORMS conference held in Seattle, USA, between October 20–23, 2024.
Dr. Demirci presented her joint work titled "A restless bandit approach for capacitated condition-based maintenance scheduling," co-authored with Dr. Joachim Arts from the University of Luxembourg and Geert-Jan Van Houtum from Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands.
Dr. Gül attended the conference with his study titled "Maintaining Fairness in Chemotherapy Scheduling Under Uncertainty." This research was conducted in collaboration with Dr. Özlem Karsu from Bilkent University and Batuhan Çelik from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in the USA.
Dr. Serper presented her joint work titled "Hub Network Design for Platooning," which she carried out in collaboration with Sibel Alumur Alev from the University of Waterloo in Canada.
On October 10, 2024, Dr. Gül delivered a research seminar titled 'Chemotherapy Appointment Scheduling' at the Technical University of Denmark in Copenhagen, in the Section of Operations and Supply Chain Management.
Dr. Gül delivered a research seminar titled 'Maintaining Fairness in Stochastic Chemotherapy Scheduling' at METU Industrial Engineering Department on December 20, 2024. Dr. Gül is conducting this study in collaboration with Dr. Özlem Karsu from Bilkent University and Batuhan Çelik, who is currently pursuing a PhD at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in the USA.
On April 7, 2025, Dr. Gül delivered a research seminar titled 'Scheduling Surgery Requests from Outdoctors and Indoctors Under Uncertainty' at the Gebze Technical University Industrial Engineering Department. Dr. Gül is conducting this study in collaboration with Dr. Melih Çelik and Dr. Arsham Atashi Khoei from the University of Bath in the UK.
